IMPORT EXPORT CODE REGISTRATION
The Importer -Exporter Code (IEC) is a key business identification number which is mandatory for Exports or Imports. No person shall make any import or export except under an IEC Number granted by the DGFT. In case of import or export of services or technology, the IEC shall be required only when the service or technology provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy or is dealing with specified services or technologies
Each location of the business which intends to import should be included in the IE code.
Consequent upon introduction of GST, IEC number is the same as the PAN of the firm. The IEC would be separately issued by DGFT.
Digital Signature is required for registration for I-E Code.
In case of closure of business , it is advisable to surrender IE code.
IE code may be modified for change of address, change in the partners / directors etc.

Frequently Asked Questions
Whether more than one IEC can be issued against one PAN?
Only one IEC would be issued against a single PAN number. Any proprietor can have only one IEC number and in case there are more than one IECs allotted to a proprietor, the same may be surrendered to the Regional Office for cancellation
